Upper areas shiver as nighttime temperatures recordded well below zero

The northern areas of the country are in the grip of severe cold these days as nighttime temperatures in most of these areas are well below zero, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
The minimum temperature in Naran plummeted to -11 degrees Celsius, while it was recorded at -7 degrees Celsius in Kaghan, and -1 in Shogran.
Similarly, cold wave persists in Upper Dir and its surrounding areas as the minimum temperature in the plains has dropped to -3 while to -6 over the mountains.
Locals have demanded the provincial government to order the private school owners to close their institutions in view of intense cold.
While on the one hand, the extreme cold has resulted in the freezing of streams and nullahs, on the other people are suffering from throat and chest infections.
Cold, dry weather persists in Lahore
Cold and dry weather persists in Lahore, and the Met Office on Thursday predicted that there was no chance of rain in the Punjab capital during the next 24 hours.
It said that the minimum temperature in the city would remain at 6 degrees Celsius while the maximum at 20 degrees Celsius.
Motorways closed due to fog
Much of Punjab remained engulfed by fog, leading to the closure of different sections of the motorway.
M-4 was declared off-limits for motorists from Shorkot to Multan.
Similarly, M-5 from Multan to Rohri was also closed for the commuters.
Weather turns cold in Karachi
Not only are the country’s northern and central parts experiencing chilly weather, but temperatures have markedly dropped in the southern areas as well.
The minimum temperature in Karachi on Thursday morning was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office predicted that it would go up to 24 degrees Celsius later in the afternoon.
Strong winds blowing in the city from the north-easterly direction at the speed of 13 kilometers per hour have increased the chill in the air.
The level of humidity in the air was recorded at 54 per cent.
At the same time, however, the air quality in the Sindh capital was not good.
Cold, dry weather predicted
Meanwhile, the Met Office forecast cold while extremely cold weather for upper parts of the country and Balochistan during the next 24 hours.
It said that different parts of Punjab and upper Sindh would remain blanketed by fog.
