A devastating wildfire has engulfed the forests of Mirah and Kakni Bagah in Nikyal, Azad Kashmir, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

The fire has caused thick smoke to blanket the entire area, making it difficult for locals to breathe and posing a serious threat to nearby settlements.

The raging flames have not only destroyed valuable timber but have also caused immense suffering to wildlife, with their cries echoing through the forest.

Local residents, left to fend for themselves, are trying to control the fire without any official support.

It is worth noting that similar incidents were reported yesterday. A wildfire erupted in the Akakhel mountainous range in Bara, Khyber District, burning scores of trees and shrubs.

Strong winds in the area caused the flames to spread rapidly, threatening nearby localities. Alarmingly, no fire brigade or district administration officials had arrived at the scene by the time of reporting.

Additionally, a jungle fire broke out in Upper Dir, where Civil Defence personnel and local residents took it upon themselves to extinguish the flames. However, the cause of the fires in both Khyber and Dir remains unknown.
