Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing a cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Friday, expressed Pakistan’s willingness to engage in dialogue with Afghanistan to ensure regional peace.
However, he emphasised that improved relations with Afghanistan cannot coexist with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) freely operating from Afghan soil, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
“It is our heartfelt desire to foster better relations with Afghanistan, but the unfortunate reality is that the TTP is conducting attacks from across the border, which is unacceptable,” the Prime Minister stated.
The PM reiterated that Pakistan’s security forces are effectively tackling terrorism but stressed that “cross-border terrorism policies are unsustainable.”
PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan's readiness to hold discussions with Afghanistan for peace in the region while firmly rejecting any tolerance for TTP’s activities.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that essential medical supplies were delivered to Kurram district via helicopter, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing regional challenges.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that while Pakistan is ready for talks with Afghanistan, the dual policy of dialogue and allowing TTP to operate against Pakistan cannot coexist. He reaffirmed that the country’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies are always prepared to safeguard peace and security.
Shehbaz also highlighted the recent sacrifices of Pakistan’s security forces, mentioning the martyrdom of 16 Frontier Corps personnel and an army major during operations in North Waziristan. Several terrorists were neutralised during these efforts.
Tribute to Benazir Bhutto
Marking the 17th anniversary of Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom, PM Shehbaz paid homage to her courage, political sagacity, and democratic vision. As the first female prime minister of the Islamic world, she championed political coexistence, exemplified by her role in the Charter of Democracy signed with Mian Nawaz Sharif. Her contributions to democracy and her sacrifices for the country, he said, are exemplary and will always be remembered.
Parachinar medicine shortage addressed

Condolences to Azerbaijan
PM Shehbaz also updated the cabinet on his telephonic conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which he extended condolences over a tragic plane crash that claimed 38 lives and injured 24 others. He expressed hope for further strengthening of Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations in the coming months.
ICC Champions Trophy preparations

Banking sector reforms and revenue
PM Shehbaz announced that under the new Asset Distribution and Reconciliation (ADR) agreement with banks, Rs. 70 billion would be added to the national treasury annually, with a total of Rs. 240 billion expected over three years. He noted that banks had earned windfall profits due to high interest rates in recent years. The proposal will soon be presented to the cabinet for approval, followed by the President’s endorsement.
