Different sections of the motorway had to be closed for traffic on Saturday after dense fog again engulfed large swathes of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and upper Sindh, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the spokesman for the Motorway Police Syed Imran Ahmad, M 2, from Lahore to Kot Momin, M 3, from Lahore to Sialkot, M 4, from Faisalabad to Pindi Bhattian, and M 5, from Sher Shah to Uch Sharif were declared off limits for motorists after fog considerably reduced visibility, making it hard for the road users to drive.
The spokesman said that motorways had to be closed in order to ensure the safety of lives of commuters.
He said that the duration of the fog had increased due to cold weather.
He advised people to first avoid travelling unnecessarily, and if it was really necessary, travel during the daytime when the fog was not dense. “Hours between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM are best for travelling,” he said.
The spokesman also asked motorists to turn the fog lights of their vehicles on while travelling, drive at a slow speed and keep distance from other vehicles. “For information or in case of an emergency, dial helpline number 130,” he told.
