SBP to unveil new currency notes design this year

Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Jameel Ahmed has announced that the country’s currency notes will undergo a redesign in this year, reported 24NewsHDF TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi on Monday, he disclosed the introduction of new currency notes featuring a redesigned layout, set to be released in phases beginning in this year.
Ahmed revealed that the State Bank is currently conducting a comprehensive technical evaluation of the new notes.
He stated, “The redesigned notes will be printed gradually and introduced into circulation in a phased manner. The first note will be released in 2025, however, the exact denominations of the first redesigned note to be issued have not yet been disclosed.”
Ahmed also confirmed that the proposed designs for the new currency notes will soon be presented to the federal cabinet for approval.
Following this, the State Bank will proceed with printing and distribution.
The governor emphasized that the phased rollout strategy ensures a smooth transition, with different denominations being introduced sequentially rather than all at once.
