A shutter down strike was Wednesday observed in Gilgit-Baltistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The strike was observed on the call of the public action committee against the Revenue Act, Khalsa Sarkar Law and severe wheat crisis.
The commercial centers remained closed in Gilgit-Baltistan due to the strike, and protests were also organised against the Revenue Act.
The protest at Manawar led to the closure of Karakoram Highway.
Anjuman-e-Tajiran Committee chairman Ghulam Athar rejected tax imposition in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said that lands of Gilgit-Baltistan were being occupied in the name of Khalsa Sarkar Law. “We reject the appropriation of the public lands,” he added.
He also claimed that the government had reduced the supply of wheat to Gilgit-Baltistan. “If the wheat crisis is not resolved, we will react even more severely,” he warned.
He further said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan had also been deprived of electricity in severe winter. “The government should find an immediate solution to the electricity crisis in Gilgit-Baltistan,” he demanded.
He warned that the strike would be prolonged if the administration did not agree to the demands.
