England Thursday won the toss and elected to field against India in the second semi-final of the Twent20 World Cup at the Providence Stadium, Guyana

The toss for the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final between India and England was delayed due to a wet field and then some light showers as match started at 11:45 local time (8:45 PST).

The winner of the game will join South Africa in the final who thrashed Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first semi-final.

England captain Jos Buttler said it looks like a decent surface, everyone's talked about the low bounce at this ground. With the rain around we hope it's an advantage to bowl first."

England are unchanged.

Rohit Sharma said he would have batted anyway. "Weather seems clear," he said. "Big game and we want to put runs on the board. [Pitch] looks a little dry, hopefully, it gets slower and slower."

India have also stuck with the same combination that served them well during the Super Eight.

The morning rain made the outfield wet due to which the umpires decided to delay the toss.

The match was scheduled to start at 10:30AM local time.

A reserve day was set aside for the first semi-final but not for the second one.

However, to facilitate the completion of the match, the ICC allocated a total of 250 minutes of additional time for the semi-final. This will give the ground staff ample time to prepare the pitch if the weather permits.

In case the game is washed out, the team that finished higher in their Super 8 group will qualify for the final.

Therefore, India are in a better position than England as they topped Super 8 Group 1 by winning all their matches, whereas England finished second with two wins out of three games.

Squads:

India: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Virat Kohli, 3 Rishabh Pant (wk), 4 Suryakumar Yadav, 5 Shivam Dube, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Arshdeep Singh, 10 Kuldeep Yadav, 11 Jasprit Bumrah
