PM changes composition of Task Force on Global Warming and Heatwave

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made changes in the formation of the Task Force on Global Warming And Heatwave, 24Newshd TV channel reported on Friday.

According to a notification, Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam will be the chair, while the members include the secretaries of ministries of climate change, water resources, food security, information and broadcasting, and national health.

The NDMA chairman, Met Office DG and chief secretaries of provinces including AJK and GB will be part of the taskforce, which will give its immediate response to the heatwave across the country. 

It aims to issue an early warning of the heatwave and set in motion preventive measures to avert heatwave-related issues.

The notification added the body will take stock of water shortages in the agriculture sector and develop the standing operating procedures (sops) for water conservation on short and medium-term bases.

It will finalise its recommendations for strategies to cope with the challenge of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The force will also play its due part in public awareness.
