As has often been the case, especially in rural areas of the country, contracting a love marriage invited the wrath of the woman’s family members in southern Punjab town of Sanawan in Kot Addu, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.  

Both husband and wife were shot dead by the latter’s father, brother and ex-husband.

The bodies were later shifted to a rural health center for the post-mortem.

On the other hand, in a statement given to the police just minutes before her death, the woman revealed that she, in order to marry the man of her choice, had sought divorce from her ex-husband.

She even confirmed that those who had stormed her home and opened fire at her and her husband were none other than her father, brother and ex-husband.

The police said that while the man died on the spot, the woman breathed her last on the way to a hospital.

The police said that raids were being conducted for the arrest of assassins.
