West Indies thrash PNG by five wickets after surviving big scare

West Indies Sunday thrashed Papua New Guinea by five wickets after chasing down 137 with 6 balls to spare in the 2nd T20I match of World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

 Roston Chase scored 42 runs to help the Caribbean team past the finish line.

Chasing a target of 137 runs, West Indies suffered an early blow losing Johnson Charles quite early with not much on the board. Things could have been worse if PNG took a review as Nicholas Pooran was out LBW but got a reprieve.

However, Brandon King looked like he was batting on a different surface as he was only dealing in boundaries. The duo added 53 runs together with the hosts firmly in control of the game.

West Indies restrict Papua New Guinea to 136/8

Sese Bau top scored for Papua New Guinea with a steady 50 as wickets fell all around him against the West Indies as PNG posted 136/8 in 20 overs in the 2nd T 20I match of World Cup 2024 being played at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

T20 World Cup 2024 display in Islamabad excites fans

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024’s trophy has arrived in Islamabad after the Trophy Tour began last month in the United States of America, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The ICC T20 World Cup trophy is currently on display in front of the National Assembly of Pakistan in Islamabad.

Earlier, The trophy was displayed at Pakistan Monuments in Islamabad where cricket fans and people from different walks of life took selfies with the trophy.

A huge number of fans gathered to witness the historic tour of the World T20 trophy and took pictures. They also hoped that the trophy would make Pakistan its next home after the World Cup as the fans are highly optimistic regarding Pakistan’s chances of lifting the coveted trophy in the USA later this year.

The coveted trophy will be brought to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Saturday and will be displayed at the Gaddafi Stadium during the last T20 match of the five-match series between Pakistan and New Zealand.

During its stay in Pakistan, the T20 World Cup trophy will visit Abbottabad as well.

Cricket ventures into uncharted territory on Saturday as the first ever major tournament to be staged in the United States gets under way in Texas with the opening game of the T20 World Cup.

A month-long festival of the fastest and most explosive form of the sport -- which is being shared between venues in Texas, Florida, New York and the Caribbean -- begins with the US taking on Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium on the outskirts of Dallas on Saturday.

It marks the opening skirmish of the first ever major International Cricket Council (ICC) event to be held in part in the United States.
