Ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has won 13 tehsil council seats while it was leading on 14 others till last reports came in in the second phase of local bodies’ (LBs) elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa yesterday (Thursday, March 31, 2022), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.   

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has won five tehsil council seats, while it was ahead of other parties on seven other seats.  

On the other hand, both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have won one seat each.

Six independent candidates also managed to grab tehsil council seats. 

Voting was held in 65 tehsils of 18 districts of KP for the second phase of local bodies’ (LBs) polls.

Districts of the province where polls were held were Orakzai, Kurram, North and South Waziristan, Abbottabad, Battagram, Mansehra, Torghar, Kohistan Upper, Kohistan Lower, Kolai Palis, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral.   

29, 338 candidates belonging to different parties such as Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and others contested while total 6,176 polling stations and 16,509 polling booths had been set up for the purpose.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated the PTI team including KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan for the party’s overwhelming success in the phase two of the local government elections.
