Lahore High Court's (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim on Monday dismissed a petition of citizen Mashkoor Hussain against printing of Nawaz Sharif's image on the Kisan Cards of the Punjab government.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, the court was informed by the Punjab government's lawyer that the plan for the Kisan Card with Nawaz Sharif's picture has not been finalized yet.

On this, the petitioner's lawyer withdrew the petition against the government and the court of Justice Shahid Karim dismissed it.

On March 30, 2024, a citizen challenged the picture of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on the government of Punjab’s Nawaz Sharif Kisan Card.

Making the Punjab government, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and former premier Nawaz Sharif respondents in the petition, Mashkoor Hussain sought the LHC’s order to declare the printing of Nawaz Sharif’s picture on the card null and void.

The petitioner also prayed to the court to order that the release of funds for the project as well as its publicity should be stopped until it gave a final verdict in the case.

He also requested the court to order Nawaz to pay for the government funds spent on the cards from his pocket.

Around 10 days ago, the same petitioner had requested the LHC to prohibit former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from presiding over Punjab cabinet’s administrative meetings and issuing directives to cabinet members and state officials despite the fact that he held no official position either in the provincial or the federal government.

Mushkoor Hussain argued that Nawaz Sharif had recently chaired three administrative meetings of the Punjab government.

On March 18, chaired administrative meetings of the Punjab government alongside his daughter, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz despite the fact that he has no any official post to preside these meetings, he told the court in the petition.
