Making its stance clear on independent power producers (IPPs), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has said that legally the agreements signed with these producers could not be revoked, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

NEPRA Punjab Member Amina Ahmad has said the first thing that needed to be determined was whether the governments, which had signed these agreements were at fault. “We have to look at the circumstances in which these contracts had been signed,” she opined.

Amina stressed the need for providing a conducive environment to investors in the country.

On the other hand, the NEPRA chairman has said that the Power Division in 2021 has made an effort to address the issue.

Amina said that the contracts signed with the IPPs were not being extended. “And the producers whose contracts were given extensions were given on the government’s, and not on their terms,” she clarified.
