The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised with the United Nations the torture of participants of the long march on May 25.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the PTI core committee member Shireen Mazari sent special letters to relevant UN officials, informing the human rights champions about the government's use of force and gross violation of human rights during the long march.
The former human rights minister sent the details of evidence, stating that after the conspiracy to remove the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan was in a political crisis.
She said people reacted strongly to the conspiracy and Imran Khan's party held large rallies across the country in a bid to restore democracy and safeguard Pakistan's sovereignty.
She added the government backed by the ‘establishment ‘responded to peaceful c protests with repressive measures.
In a nationwide wave of rallies, Imran invited the people to the ‘real independence march’ but the federal government, as well as the provincial governments, cracked down on workers and leaders, she wrote.
Despite constitutional protections for freedom of expression and other democratic rights, the federal and provincial governments have violated human rights, she added.
