Karachi dairy farmers quietly raise milk price by Rs10/L
March 1, 2022 01:35 PM
Ignoring all the directions regarding fixing of milk price, the dairy farmers in Karachi have increased the milk rate by Rs10 per litre hiking the price to Rs150/L, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
In the dead of night, the dairy farmers quietly raised the milk prices and the milk mafia once again became active and announced the hike on their own.
According to an announcement by the dairy farmers association, the wholesalers and retailers would not supply milk on the official price fixed by government.
The administration is not taking any action on this unofficial hike and is acting as a silent spectator.
It is pertinent to note that the Karachi commissioner fixed the milk price at Rs120/litre last year on Dec 8.
Though Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced a reduction in the petroleum and electricity prices last night, the increase in milk prices by dairy farmers looks odd and betrays that the milk mafia is hell bent to mint money.
The milk sellers had announced a hike in milk prices after an increase in the POL and electricity prices. But they did not take back their decision even after a cut in prices.
