Later, the Federal Minister announced the recommendations that had come under discussion in the meeting.
He said that the meeting discussed various aspects of the sugar export strategy. “The ministry will present the matter of sugar export to the cabinet's Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for further deliberation and approval.”
He said that the ECC will be informed about the latest updates in the sugar industry.
Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that the final decision regarding whether to cancel or proceed with the sugar export permission lies with the ECC. Additionally, the Sugar Advisory Board has recommended extending the export duration from 45 days to 60 days, a move aimed at providing ample time for the export process, he added.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) clarified that there has been no increase in the ex-mill prices of sugar.
The association also stated that the ex-mill prices have no direct impact on the retail prices of sugar.
The PSMA urged the government to take necessary measures to maintain the retail price of sugar, ensuring stability for consumers.
