Media organisations as well as senior journalists Wednesday filed a petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the amended PECA ordinance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The petition was filed through a seasoned lawyer Munir A. Malik.

It was adopted in the petition that the PECA ordinance would prevent critical analysis of public representatives’ performance which was vital in a democracy for good governance.

It was also maintained that the ordinance was against the Article 4, 9, 19, 19-A, and 89 of the Constitution, and therefore, it should be declared null and void.

Federal information ministry, law ministry, and information technology ministry had been made respondents in the petition.

Media organisations that filed the petition included: Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND), and Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).

Senior journalists including Azhar Abbas, Muhammad Malik, Ali Kazim Waheed, Ijazul Haq, Shakeel Masud, and Jang Group Managing Director (Marketing) Sarmad Ali were also among the petitioners.
