Pink-eye outbreak spreads across Punjab, teachers demand more holidays

The pink-eye (conjunctivitis) outbreak has spread throughout Punjab to an alarming level as the number of infected persons shot up rapidly, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to the details, 9,401 new patients were reported during the last 24 hours across Punjab.
The total number of patients affected by conjunctivitis reached 106330.
Another 357 new patients were reported in Lahore within 1 day whereas a total of 8924 people were affected by conjunctivitis in Lahore.
The Punjab government decided to re-open all the private and government schools from today, despite the increase in severe eye infections.
The children suffering from conjunctivitis were identified at the school gate and the affected children were sent back to their homes.
The teachers association said that 15 to 20 children still suffer from conjunctivitis while the holidays helped significantly in controlling the outbreak.
Moreover, the teachers demanded more holidays at least a week so that the epidemic could be controlled further.
