Following the case of references against Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, Supreme Court (SC) Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood Monday wrote a letter to Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, both the senior justices of the apex court demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan convene a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council for the investigation against Justice Mazahar.
In the letter, they said the written complaints have been received, including from the Pakistan Bar Council alleging misconduct and financial impropriety by Hon'ble Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi.
The SC judges said in the letter that Article 209 of the Constitution establishes the Supreme Judicial Council of Pakistan and it is the duty of the council to inquire into the capacity and misconduct of a Judge.
The judges said, "Hon'ble Chief Justice, we were waiting for you to convene a meeting of the Council to consider the complaints.......we must exonerate the respondent Judge and fully restore his honour or else submit our report in terms of the constitution."
They also added in the letter, "To leave the respondent Judge under a cloud of uncertainty undermines both his and the Judiciary's repute."
