PTI forms six parties grand opposition alliance

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formed a grand alliance with six opposition political parties and announced to hold its first rally in Quetta on April 14, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

This development comes in a joint meeting of six opposition parties held in Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to sources, with the consultation of the all parties, Chairman Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Mahmood Khan Achakzai has been assigned to lead the alliance.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Majsal-e-Wahdat Muslimeen (MWM), BNP-Mengal, Pakhtunkhwa Awami Mili Party (PAMP) and Sunni Itehad Council (SIC) are included in the grand alliance.  

Chairman PTI Gohar Ali Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch, and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Achackzai attended the meeting.

Majlis-e-Wadhat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) head Allama Nasir Abbas and Balochistan National Party (BNP) Chairman Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser were also present on the occasion.

The participants of the meeting agreed on the anti-government movement and vowed to give tough time.

The motto of the anti-government movement will be "non-interference in politics, the supremacy of the people, independent judiciary and rule of law."

All these parties had earlier rejected the February 8 elections results and termed it ‘manipulated’.

It was decided in the meeting that Mehmood Khan Achakzai would consult with all the political parties present in the alliance.

He will also contact Maulana Fazlur Rehman within three days and invite him formally to join the alliance.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman has already given a call to go against the government, sources said.

PTI and JUI under the leadership of Mehmood Khan Achakzai will announce a series of protests countrywide.

The sources further stated that Jamaat-e-Islami is also likely to get a big position in the alliance.

The opposition alliance will hold its first public meeting in Quetta on April 14.

Umar Ayub will participate in the meeting on behalf of PTI.

The meeting also constituted a contact committee.  

Liaquat Baloch will contact other parties in Punjab and invite them to join the alliance.

Likewise, Akhtar Mengal will contact Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and JUI.

It has also been decided to hold joint rallies in Karachi, South Punjab, and Central Punjab under the banner of alliance and dates will be announced in consultation with all parties in the next joint meeting.

Jamaat-e-Islami has indicated to join the grand alliance and will make the final announcement after the approval of Majlis Shura.

The PTI has been mulling over forming a joint opposition alliance since after the general elections 2024 as the party held several meetings with other parties including the Moulana Fazal-ur-Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) having reservations on the polls.

Earlier on February 13, former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan ruled out the possibility of talks with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for the formation of the government or joint opposition.

The PTI founder in his informal media talk in Adiala Jail—where he is incarcerated in Toshakhana, Cipher, and illegal nikah case— directed his party to hold talks with other parties.
