NACTA reforms underway as govt decides to block terrorists' accounts

The federal government has decided to block accounts linked to terrorist groups and curb illegal SIMs with the cooperation of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The decision was made during the National Action Plan Coordination Committee meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, state institutions, departments, and the PTA have been directed to present an effective mechanism within a week.
It was also decided to enhance coordination between the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and provincial authorities and to take comprehensive steps to prevent terrorist organisations' activities on social media.
NACTA National Coordinator Khalid Khattak provided a detailed briefing on the implementation of the second review meeting's decisions.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of anti-terrorism measures and security arrangements for Chinese nationals. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed the importance of executing a foolproof security plan for the protection of Chinese citizens.
Mohsin Naqvi condemned the recent terrorism incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), pledging full cooperation to enhance the professional capabilities of counter-terrorism forces in these regions.
The interior minister announced measures to strengthen police and the Frontier Constabulary and to equip coastal guards to combat narcotics smuggling.
The interior minister directed law enforcement agencies to submit reports on their requirements to the Ministry of Interior within seven days.
He emphasised the leading role of NACTA in counterterrorism efforts, announcing reforms and restoration of NACTA’s original functions.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary for Interior, the National Coordinator of NACTA, IGPs, the Commandant of Frontier Constabulary, and senior officials from law enforcement agencies.
The committee was informed that, as of October this year, 7,984 intelligence-based operations had resulted in the elimination of 206 terrorists.
