Outages intensify as electricity shortfall touches 7,787 megawatts

The power shortfall in the country has touched 7,787 megawatts, with total power generation at 21,213 megawatts, and total demand for electricity at 29,000 megawatts, necessitating prolonged power cuts in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to the power division sources, at least 5,430 megawatts of power is being generated from water, whereas, the government’s thermal plants are generating 1,705 megawatts of electricity.
The total electricity generation of private sector power plants is 10,241 megawatts, whereas, at least 1,629 megawatts of electricity are being generated from wind power plants.
The total power generation from solar plants is 113 megawatts, whereas, the bagasse-based power plants are generating 120 megawatts of electricity.
At least 2,275 megawatts of electricity are being generated from nuclear fuel, according to the power division sources.
On the other hand, the shortfall of electricity has necessitated prolonged power cuts in the country.
It is learnt that up to 14 hours of power loadshedding is being carried out in different parts of the country.
It is also learnt that the duration of loadshedding is longer in areas with high losses.
