The United Kingdom Thursday is co-hosting the Global Vaccine Summit for Gavi, the Global Vaccine Alliance, which distributes vaccine to the poorest countries.
The British Commission in Islamabad has released a video with Pakistani celebrities fully endorsing the UK government initiative.
Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shehzad Roy, Hadiqa Kayani and Faryal Mehmood all appeared in the short video to support the Global Vaccine Summit and hoped that the coronavirus vaccine would be soon available to end the pandemic.
British High Commissioner in Pakistan Christian Turner said the UK was leading the global response to find the coronavirus vaccine.
“I support Prime Minister’s Imran Khan’s call for a ‘people’s vaccine against COVID-19’ which must be available to all,” he added.
Gavi committed one billion dollars towards immunisation in Pakistan, in making it the largest recipient of Vaccine Alliance Funding.
The UK has already pledged record funding of $1.65 billion to Gavi. Today’s summit seeks to raise a further $7 billion, which will help ensure that coronavirus vaccine is available for all countries, including Pakistan.
