The Islamabad High Court has issued a notice to the attorney general of Pakistan to appear before the court on March 10 in the PECA Act case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard petitions filed by Pakistan Broadcasters Associations and other media bodies on Friday. The judge while issuing notice to Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan summoned him on March 10 to present his arguments regarding PECA Ordinance.
The CJ inquired if the petitioners had objection over Section 20 of the PECA Act. He stated that the petitioners only challenged the amendments to the ordinance.
He further remarked that a petition was already sub judice challenging the inclusion of Section 20 relating to the defamation in the criminal law.
So the court has to determine whether the defamation should be included in the criminal law or not, the judge said.
With this, the chief justice adjourned the hearing till March 10.
