The Fatima Jinnah Medical University arranged an awareness walk and a seminar in connection with Heart Day.
FJMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal led the event while Pro-Vice Chancellor Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Principal Noreen Akmal, Chairperson Department of Medicine/ Director QEC/ Dena Nursing Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Registrar Prof Muhammad Nadeem, Head of Cardiology Department Prof Bilal S Mohydin, Senior Registrar Cardiology Dr Matiullah and faculty showed up at the it.
Prof Gondal said that the purpose of this awareness walk and seminar is to create awareness about heart issues among the people.
He added: “Heart diseases are extremely important and are increasing day by day, largely due to the use of a substandard and unbalanced diet and a lack of physical exercise.
“That’s why early diagnosis and treatment are so important to avoid any unfortunate situations.”

“The rate of heart disease in pregnant women is 4%. This disease is growing very fast which is alarming. We need to improve our lifestyle.”
Prof Bilal S Mohydin said: “The cause of most deaths in the world is heart disease - the main causes of which are a substandard diet, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, a high level of cholesterol in the blood, and a lack of physical activity.
“Our goal is to make the patients as well as their attendants aware of how to improve their lifestyle in the future if someone has had a heart attack.
“The use of excess fatty substances, salt, and sugar should be minimised and you should ensure the habit of physical exercise in your life. “
He also shed light on the cardiology department’s role in providing better healthcare service.
