Punjab introduces School Councils to improve education standards

The Punjab government Tuesday announced to establish councils in private and public schools across the province to improve the schools performance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The education authorities on Tuesday said that the registration of the private schools will be revoked in case of non-compliance.
The School Council will be comprised of seven members with the school principal as its chairman.
Teachers, parents and educationists will be part of the School Council. It has been notified that in high schools a teacher from the primary section will be included and while secretary education would himself or nominate a member for School Council.
Another member would be from the District Education Authority (DEA).
The School Council will be notified for the period of two years and its meeting should be held on a monthly basis.
The authorities have notified that the school will place a complaint box on its premises and that all complaints will be read out in front of all members.
All complaints that would be lodged by the parents related to alleged torture and sexual harassment with their children would be heard by the School Council.
It has been notified that the budget of all curricular and non-curricular activities will be presented before the School Council.
The Punjab School Education authorities said that the School Council will help in improving the standards of the educational institutes.
