Kolkata Knight Riders have signed England batsman Jason Roy for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, the organisers said Wednesday, in the absence of skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shakib Al Hasan.
Iyer has been ruled out for the entire season due to a back injury, and the India batsman reportedly could miss the World Test Championship final against Australia in June as well.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is leading the national team in the ongoing one-off Test against Ireland in Mirpur, has confirmed his unavailability for the season.
Roy, who last played in the IPL in 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad, was signed for $341,842 from his base price of $183,130, the IPL said in a statement.
The 32-year-old Roy has played 64 T20 matches for England, scoring 1,522 runs including eight half-centuries at a strike rate of over 137.
