Commenting on the dissenting note written by two Supreme Court (SC) judges, who were part of the bench, which gave the verdict in the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) reserved seats’ case, Federal Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar said on Sunday the note was not surprising given the fact that ‘relief’ was provided to the party, which had not even asked for it, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Faisalabad, he opined that the note had put question marks over the apex court’s decision in the case. “Both judges raised some important points, which need to be answered,” he said, adding, “Independents joined that party, which did not even have a representation in the National Assembly.”
Tarar questioned how could there be a floor crossing after the candidates submitted the affidavits of a particular party.
He said it was unfortunate that the apex court had yet to release a detailed verdict in the case.
The minister also stated that the Sunni Ittehad Council chairman had contested the February 8 general elections as an independent candidate.
