Auditor general points out Rs730m ‘anomalies’ in Punjab govt records

The Auditor General of Pakistan has opened a new Pandora’s Box against the Punjab government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The auditor general has informed the authorities concerned that the Punjab government has no record of Rs730 million expenditure. In response, the Punjab Finance Ministry has initiated a probe into the scam on the basis of the information provided by the auditor general.
According to the auditor general, the Punjab government has no record of Rs730 million spent in fiscal years 2018-19 and 2019-20. The Punjab Finance Ministry says that release of the aforementioned amount from the head account is being investigated. A comprehensive report on details of the spending would be presented to the auditor general soon, Finance Ministry officials said.
