Section 144 imposed in violence-hit Kurram

The provincial authorities have imposed a ban on public gatherings under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the violence-hit Kurram District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

According to a notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary Abid Majeed on Sunday evening, initially the public gatherings have been banned for two months and more than five people cannot gather at any public place. 

The government has also imposed a complete ban on the display of weapons in the district, where sectarian violence has claimed hundreds of lives in recent weeks. Announcements about the imposition of Section 144 in the district are being made by mobile vehicles.
