Sindh govt raises objections over digital census

March 5, 2023 10:42 PM

The Sindh government on Sunday raised concerns about the country’s first-ever digital census, terming it a flawed exercise while calling on the federal government to address the party’s concerns in this regard.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah wrote a letter to the federation apprising that there are complications in the census process. “The digital census is looking doubtful as population census process is being kept secret from the masses and the provinces.”

He said in the letter that the flaws in the digital census should be corrected as they approach the federal authorities to ensure transparency of the exercise.

He contended that PPP needed a comprehensive briefing on the digital census to dispel its concerns.

The letter held that the Pakistan Peoples Party had already raised the census issue in the National Assembly and the Senate.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that new problems have arisen due to the introduction of android tablets.

“Sindh government and the people are not being kept abreast with the process,” he added. He recalled that the federal government is repeating mistakes of the 2017 census. The census should be avoided being controversial, he asserted.

If the results are disputed, the provincial government will not be responsible, Murad Ali Shah maintained in the letter.
