Gravedigger held for selling existing graves in Karachi

Police arrested a local gravedigger after the recovery of two human skeletons at Zia Colony Cemetery, Orangi Town of Karachi which hinted at his alleged involvement in the sale of existing graves, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to police, one of the two skeletons was of a child, who was buried in the cemetery about four months ago, and, his relatives could not locate his grave when they came to the graveyard to offer Fateha at his grave.
They thrashed the gravedigger when it came to their knowledge that he had buried an adult person in the grave of the child and shifted his body to somewhere else in the graveyard.
When the police reached the graveyard, on being complained about the misconduct, they recovered two human skeletons from there. One of the skeletons was the child’s, whereas, the gravedigger and the relatives of the child expressed their ignorance about the other.
During interrogation, the gravedigger confessed before the police to exhuming the grave of the child and shifting his body to another place for Rs15,000.
Qari Hayat, one of the child’s relatives, had informed the police about the misconduct.
The police decided to get DNA samples of the two human skeletons.
They also shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
