CJP summons Judicial Commission meeting to consider confirmation of LHC judges

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial Wednesday convened a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on October 15 to consider the regularization of 13 additional judges of Lahore High Court, reported 24NewsHD TC channel.
The 13 judges are Justice Sohail Nasir, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Safdar Saleem, Justice Nadeem Arshad, Justice Tariq Nadeem, Justice Amjad Rafiq, Justice Abid Hussain Chatha, Justice Anwar Hussain, Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, Justice Sultan Tanveer Ahmed, Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi, Justice Shaun Gul and Justice Raheel Kamran.
The appointment of 13 additional judges in the Lahore High Court was recommended on April 22, 2021. In April this year, the tenure of these additional judges was further extended by six months.
The JCP is responsible for the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court and five high courts of the country. The CJP also heads the commission as its chairman. The body also comprises four senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, a former judge, the federal law minister, the attorney general for Pakistan and a senior advocate nominated by the Pakistan Bar Council.
The provincial and Islamabad bar councils each nominate a representative as a JCP member.
