Thousands of students take out peace rally in Gilgit Baltistan

As many as 4,000 students from four districts of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) took out a peace rally to dispel the rumours about sectarian tensions in the region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The students participating in the peace rally showed their determination to keep the identity of an unsectarian Gilgit-Baltistan undamaged.

Students from four districts including Gilgit, Ghazar, Hunza and Nagar participated in the rally which started from Boys High School No 1, Gilgit, and ended peacefully at the GB Civil Secretariat.

The participants of the rally reached the chief secretary’s office and presented a resolution of commitment to the Islamic spirit of peace, love and brotherhood.

The text of the students’ peace resolution said, “Education is our first priority. To gain education, the new generation of GB needs a peaceful environment. We assure our strong support [to authorities] to maintain peace and harmony in GB.”

It added, “GB is a region free of sectarian tension and conflict. Rumors and misinformation to fuel tensions will be countered. Youths of GB are the bearers of their unwavering commitment to the Islamic concept of brotherhood and will continue protecting this spirit.”

It stated, “The students’ power show for peace sends a clear message that the people of GB are committed to education, development and communal harmony. We are and will remain united against any attempt to disrupt the peaceful way of life of GB.”
