In a shocking revelation, it has been discovered that fake detection bills were charged to consumers during the anti-electricity theft campaign in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
According to the sources, fake units were charged on "universal numbers" across various company offices, and FIRs were lodged against these numbers to impose detection bills.
Sources also revealed that the bills collected on universal numbers in the company's revenue department could not be fed into the accounts.
Furthermore, bogus detection bills were issued to official connections in several company offices, and fake bills were also charged to permanently disconnected consumers.
In some LESCO offices, dozens of cases were registered against a single consumer, leading to concerns about the integrity of the anti-theft campaign.
During the federal government's anti-electricity theft drive, it was found that fraudulent actions were taken to charge bills. Each sub-division has been directed to register at least one FIR daily as part of the campaign.
