Lahore police have disclosed that the arrested dacoit gang invloved in a series of robberies with Sikh Yatrees has linked with a foreign intelligence agency, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, SP Organized Crime Unit South, Aftab Ahmed Phularwan said among the apprehended suspects identified as Shahrukh, Rehana Shahrukh, and Mohammad Irfan, revelations emerged during the investigation suggesting that they are foreign residents operating on behalf of a foreign agency to malign Pakistan.
Phalrawan stated that the accused confessed to committing crimes against visiting Sikh pilgrims at the behest of a foreign intelligence agency.
The culprits would promptly notify their foreign handlers after each incident, intending to tarnish Pakistan's global reputation.
The police officer further disclosed that the accused used to wear uniforms of different forces, targeted foreign nationals, conducted searches, and fled the scenes of the crimes. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to unearth further details.
SP Aftab added that the Organized Crime Unit Lahore, employing modern technology, IT experts, CCTV footage, and the expertise of seasoned officers, managed to swiftly apprehend the culprits, preventing a potential international smear campaign against Pakistan.
