The anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has ordered Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, to appear before it on January 9 in connection with the violent protests that took place on May 9 last year, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Friday.

Khan, who is currently in Adiala Jail on judicial remand in different cases, is accused of inciting his supporters to attack the police and damage public property during the demonstrations.

The court issued the summons after hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defence lawyers.

Khan has denied any involvement in the violence and claimed that he was being politically victimized by the current government.
