Low-lying areas flooded as Lahore, other Punjab cities receive heavy rains

Lahore and other parts of Punjab were again lashed by monsoon rains late Friday night, which inundated low-lying areas and rid the people of mugginess, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
In Lahore, Qartaba Chowk received the highest amount of rainfall totaling 15 millimeters followed by Lakshmi Chowk 10 millimeters and Farrukhabad and Mughalpura five millimeters each.
On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, WASA MD Ghufran Ahmad visited the monsoon emergency camps and directed the staff present there to remain on their toes. “Keep your machinery ready so that rainwater could be drained out as early as possible,” he said.
The MD also visited the low-lying areas of the provincial capital besides main roads such as Abbott Road, Davis Road, Queen Marry Road, Garhi Shahu Bridge and GT Road.
Heavy showers were also reported from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Narowal, Sialkot, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Phalia, Manawala, Nankana, Jarranwala and other cities.
Rain emergency imposed in Rawalpindi
Intermittent rain in Rawalpindi prompted the authorities to impose rain emergency in the city.
Over 30 millimeters of rain had been recorded in the city till last reports came in.
Rain in Talagang makes people ecstatic
People in Talagang were over the moon after heavy rain in and around the city resulted in a drop in the temperature and offered them respite from hot and humid weather.
Power supply in Mianwali suspended after rain
Although heavy rain in Mianwali proved to be a blessing for the residents of the city, at the same time it led to a power breakdown.
According to experts, rain would prove to be quite useful for the cotton crop.
Similarly, downpours were also reported from Isakhel, Daska, Nowshera Virkan, Farooqabad, Shahkot, Nankana Sahib, Chunian, Pattoki and Quaidabad.
Met Office predicts urban flooding
The weather department, on the other hand, forecast that torrential rains could result in deluge in nullahs and streams in the country’s mountainous areas as well as urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Peshawar.
