Different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Swabi, Mardan and Dir, were lashed by heavy rain and hailstorms on Monday, making the weather chillier, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
It rained cats and dogs in Swabi and its suburban towns and villages, which wreaked havoc as even main roads and bazaars were inundated and streams were flooded.
The rainwater even entered shops besides causing colossal damage to crops in Topi, Zarar Yaqubi, Nawankali and other areas.
Seeing that nobody from the administration had come to their rescue, the people of the city had to drain out the water on their own.
Same was the situation at Mardan and its outskirts where temperatures dipped considerably following rain and a hailstorm.
Similarly, the weather became colder in Upper Dir after rain and a hailstorm lashed the area.
Met Office forecasts rain for upper areas
The Met Office said that the weather would remain dry in most parts of the country barring upper areas of KP, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), Islamabad and cities in north Punjab namely Murree, Rawalpindi, Galyat, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujranwala and Lahore, which were likely to be pounded by heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds.
However, it said few areas in upper Punjab would receive rain.
The weather department also predicted light snowfall over the hills.
It said that most areas of Punjab would remain engulfed by smog and fog. “Fog will be dense in some areas, especially at night and in the morning,” the department added.
Swat receives first snowfall of winter season
While different parts of central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were buffeted by rain, strong winds and hailstorms on Monday, Mahodand Lake in Kalam, Swat received the first snowfall of the winter season, considerably enhancing the beauty of the lake as well as its surroundings.
Similarly, it rained intermittently in the upper and central parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), including the capital Muzaffarabad.
While, on one hand, the rain turned weather in these areas chilly, it rid the locals of smog and signaled the end of the period of drought on the other.
