Yash Raj Films unveils title of upcoming Alia-Sharvari film

Yash Raj Films (YRF) revealed Friday the title of its initial female-led spy thriller, featuring Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh. The upcoming action movie, directed by Shiv Rawail, has been named “Alpha” and will showcase Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh in the roles of super agents.

 According to reports from Indian media, the shooting of the film has officially begun, with sets in Mumbai and the United Kingdom as the two characters embark on missions worldwide. The veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has also been added to the cast and will be portraying the mentor of Alia and Sharvari. It has been reported that Alia Bhatt underwent an intensive two-month training program with specialists to perform stunts in ‘Alpha’.

On Instagram, YRF officially announced the movie's title with a caption that said, "Here come the #ALPHA girls."

The spy universe created by YRF began more than ten years ago with Salman Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger' (2012) and has seen major success in Bollywood, including the recent blockbuster 'Pathaan'. It is now preparing to introduce the first female counterpart to Pathaan (Shahrukh Khan), Tiger (Salman Khan), and Major Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) in the 8th film, with Bhatt portraying the main spy in the action extravaganza.

This upcoming installment signifies a significant change for the franchise, which previously featured male leads alongside strong female supporting characters. Sharvari Wagh recently appeared in the successful movie 'Munjya' and is set to star in Nikkhil Advani's 'Vedaa' alongside John Abraham and Tamannaah Bhatia, scheduled for release on August 15.

 On the other hand, Alia Bhatt's upcoming lineup includes the release of Vasan Bala's film 'Jigra' in October 2024 and the eagerly anticipated period drama 'Love & War' by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, planned for Christmas 2025.
