A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike is being observed today on the call of the Awami Action Committee in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) against inflated electricity and perks of the elite, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

It is to be noted here that people in different areas of AJK have been organising protests for the past one-and-a-half-month.

The ongoing sit-ins in all districts of AJK were ended by police on the night between Friday and Saturday.

The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in Muzaffarabad also suspended the classes in view of the strike. The university also postponed the scheduled MPhil and PhD entry tests.

The Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) has also postponed the exam on October 17.

The University of Poonch, Kahuta Havelie Campus, has also postponed the exam.

The strike is being observed by people across AJK for the recognition of their right to resources and against high electricity bills.

Public transport has been suspended from the capital to every AJK city while small and large markets are closed in all cities and towns.

A complete shutdown is being observed in Garhi Dupatta, Chikar, Hattian Bala, Pathaka and Nausiri Bazaar.

Markets are completely closed in all three districts of Poonch division.

The strike is also being observed in the three tehsils of Jhelum district valley.

Early morning breakfast centers, bakeries, milk shops and vegetable and meat shops are closed.
