Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to hear PTI’s review petition against depriving it of electoral symbol ‘cricket bat’ here on October 11, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Three members Apex court bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali.
PTI has filed a review petition against Election Commission of Pakistan decision which deprived PTI of its electoral symbol.
It is pertinent to mention that on 14 January 2024 SC had upheld an electoral commission decision barring the party of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan from using its iconic cricket bat electoral symbol to identify party candidates contesting the Feb. 8 national election.
The top court had endorsed a controversial Election Commission decision prohibiting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from retaining the bat symbol, citing alleged irregularities in recent intra party elections. PTI had moved to SC against ECP’s decision. Election symbols are essential campaign tools to identify candidates on ballot papers in the nation of about 241 million people, where most constituencies are in rural areas with low adult literacy rates.
