Dense fog again prompts closure of motorways in Punjab, KP

Different sections of the motorway had to be closed for traffic as dense fog again blanketed large swathes of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Upper Sindh on Sunday, hence considerably reducing visibility on roads, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sections of the motorway from Lahore to Kot Momin (M 2), from Faizpur to Darkhana (M 3), from Iqbalabad to Rohri (M 5), Lahore to Sialkot (M 11), from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim (M 4), from Islamabad to Peshawar (M 1), Swat Expressway from Colonel Sher Khan to Katlang, motorway from Islamabad to Balksar (M 2) and from Hakla to Yark (M 14), were closed.
Spokesman for the Motorway Police (MP) Syed Imran Ahmad said that the motorway had to be closed in order to ensure the safety of motorists.
He advised people to avoid travelling unnecessarily and if it was really necessary, travel during the daytime.
The spokesman also counselled people to drive at a slow pace, turn their fog lights on and keep distance while travelling.
He said that before starting their journey, motorists could dial helpline number 130 for information. “Apart from that, they can also get information by logging on to the National Highways and Motorway Police’s official social media account.
Dry weather forecast for Punjab, rain, snow for Balochistan
On the other hand, the weather is getting chillier in Lahore and other parts of the country by the day as minimum temperature in the provincial capital was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius on Sunday morning.
The humidity level in the air was recorded at 100 per cent.
The Met Office, on the other hand, forecast dry weather for Lahore and other parts of the Punjab during the next 24 hours.
It also forecast the fog to get more dense in the coming days.
However, it predicted rain and snow over the hills for different parts of Balochistan as a new system would enter the province on Sunday and would result in rain in Noshki, Chagai, Turbat, Gwadar, Kech and Panjgur while rain and snow in Quetta, Kalat, Chaman, Ziarat, Qila Abdullah, Tauba Achakzai and Kan Mehtarzai.
The weather department said that nights in January would be chillier.
