The new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced the cancellation of the controversial plan to send illegal immigrants to Rwanda.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, PM Starmer declared that the Rwanda plan was "dead and buried" even before it started. He said the plan would have only reduced illegal immigration by a mere one per cent.
Starmer emphasized that those who fail to obtain political asylum should be returned to their country of origin.
The Rwanda plan initially aimed to send asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda.
However, the Prime Minister stated that the plan was ineffective and would not significantly curb illegal immigration.
According to foreign media, under the Rwanda plan, asylum seekers in the UK were to be relocated to Rwanda.
However, with the new announcement, this plan has been officially terminated.
