Govt exercising maximum restraint on Imran Khan s issue: Kh Asif

Says the PTI chief is begging to meet Army Chief: Govt making sure Afghan soil not used for terrorism

March 7, 2023 03:24 PM

Defence Minister and PML-N stalwart Khawaja Asif said on Tuesday that the government was making it sure that the Afghan soil was not used against Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking to media, he said that just like Pakistan had eliminated terrorism in the past, it would do so again in future.

He regretted that precious lives of the Pakistan Army, police and civilians were lost in the recent incidents of terrorism in the country.

Asif was of the view that no one had skipped court appearances the way PTI Chairman Imran Khan was doing. “Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz appeared in courts countless times,” he said, and added, “Despite Imran’s reluctance to appear in courts, the government is exercising restraint.”

The minister claimed that Imran’s entire political career enjoyed the establishment’s patronage.

He went on to say that the PTI chairman wanted to appoint the army chief of his choice. “And now he is begging to meet with the serving army chief,” Asif said, and added that contrary to the PTI claims, the party’s ‘Jail Bharo’ movement was a flop.

He further said that Imran was pretending to be injured.

He alleged that when Islamabad Police went to the PTI chief’s Zaman Park residence to arrest him, his party leader Shibli Faraz lied that he (Imran) was not at home. “The fact is that Imran is defying courts’ orders,” the minister said, adding that had laid bare the real face of the PTI chairman.

Asif wondered that while on one hand, Imran asked his party workers to surrender to police, on the other he was approaching courts for bails.
