Keeping in view the range of issues that can directly or indirectly impede the timely completion of degrees by postgraduate students, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) has decided to establish a directorate of postgraduate studies (DPGS) responsible for overseeing all aspects of postgraduate education within the university, from registration to degree issuance.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, a decision to this effect was taken at the 35th meeting of the Academic Council held here on Monday. Chaired by Vice-Chancellor Pro Ahsan Waheed Rathore, heads of affiliated colleges and institutions, as well as senior faculty members, participated in the meeting.
Approval was granted to establish a Directorate of Post Graduate Studies, which is aimed at providing guidance and support for the postgraduate programs of affiliated colleges and institutes.
The members were informed that the new department would be tasked with ensuring the smooth operation of coursework, conducting semester examinations in all departments, and preparing agendas for the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) to seek approval for research flows, synopses, and theses.
Furthermore, the DPGS would be responsible for maintaining the quality of teaching, learning, and research in postgraduate programs, regularly reviewing and updating these programs, and fostering quality research through collaborations with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
UHS VC apprised the members that the move aimed to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of postgraduate education and research within the university through better administrative measures.
The Council also reviewed and approved various amendments to the UHS Migration Policy.
These changes were designed to ensure that students who migrate between different programs or institutions meet specific requirements.
Members recommended to separate the Migration and Equivalence Committees, requiring candidates to pass all previous subjects according to the university's curriculum at the time of migration.
It was decided that candidates undergoing migration must pass all subjects in the class they are migrating to.
International candidates seeking migration will not be granted exemptions in any subject.
The meeting also approved the establishment of the Institutional Review Board to oversee research matters in postgraduate programs. This board will be responsible for reviewing research issues in postgraduate programs, including the ethical aspects of research and preliminary design reviews. The formation of this board is expected to save time for postgraduate research scholars, ensuring that research is conducted in an ethical and systematic manner.
The Academic Council also approved a policy related to the organization of academic and scientific events.
