Railway officials told Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmad on Thursday that Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) was now operating between Orangi and SITE Area, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
During the hearing of port city’s different issues at Supreme Court’s (SC) Karachi registry by a larger bench, headed by CJP, and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and other judges, when the CJP asked Karachi commissioner as to what was the status of KCR, the latter replied that its track had been handed over to the Pakistan Railways (PR).
PR Project Director told the apex court that the department had been handed over 30-kilometer track for the purpose.
Railway officials, on the occasion, said that all technical issues would be resolved by April 10.
They told that they were working on resolving these issues in collaboration with the Sindh government as well as FWO.
When FWO officials told the court that the provincial government had given Rs250 million to their department for KCR’s design, CJP Justice Gulzar remarked FWO’s job was not to extort money from the people in the name of development projects.
He wondered as to why there was so much difference between the FWO and Sindh government’s versions.
