Poliovirus detected in 12 sewage samples of eight cities

An alarming increase in the rate of polio cases in Pakistan was recorded as poliovirus in 12 sewage samples from 8 cities has been confirmed, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
According to sources, Wild Polio Virus One and YBA Three Cluster were found in sewage.
Sources said that sewage samples from Karachi, Quetta, Awsta Muhammad, Sibi Peshawar, Mastung, Naseerabad and Kohat are polio-positive.
This year, 93 samples of 31 districts have become polio-positive, said sources.
Sampling for polio tests from 8 cities was done from March 14 to 19, sources added.
Polio has been found in the sewage of Karachi East, South, Korangi, and Sohrab Goth is polio positive.
This year, 13 samples from Karachi East have turned out to be polio-positive while poliovirus has been confirmed in Karachi South Manzoor Colony Drain.
This year, 6 samples from Karachi South have turned out to be polio positive while poliovirus has been found in the sewage of Karachi Korangi Drain.
Sources said that Karachi city's sewage poliovirus is genetically local.
The sewage of District Awsta Mohammad Van Stand has turned out to be polio positive.
Poliovirus has been found for the first time in the sewage of Awsta Mohammad, sources said.
Sources said that Awsta Muhammad's sewage poliovirus is genetically related to Quetta.
Sewage of Quetta Tausabad, Surpal, Jatak village is polio positive.
This year, 12 sewage samples of Quetta have turned out to be polio-positive and sewage poliovirus is genetically related to the Chaman area.
Sewage from Mastung Adalat Road and Sabi’s Ganda Nala Allahabad is polio positive.
Sewage of Wapda Colony of Faqirabad, Naseerabad of Kohat area is polio positive.
Moreover, poliovirus has been found in the sewage of Shaheen Muslim Town, Peshawar.
Polio virus has been confirmed in 9 samples of Peshawar this year.
Two cases of poliovirus have been reported in the country this year.
