Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader Liaquat Baloch has said the party will hold a march on Murree Road tomorrow, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
His statement came after he led his party negotiation team to a meeting with the government representatives in Rawalpindi.
“We have told the government delegation that people can be provided with relief even in these circumstances,” he said, adding that whatever will be discussed with the government will be conveyed to the people.
He laid stress on end to privileges so that expenses could be brought down
He said: “People in the government are getting benefits of billions of rupees in the name of capacity billing. The government’s seriousness will be shown when a way out is drawn.
“We do not doubt anyone's intention, but free petrol, free electricity and other such benefits are unbearable for the people
“Civil bureaucracy, army, judiciary ... everyone should dig deep that all this is out of the question in current circumstances.
“The government has no other solution but to revise the IPPs deals.
“People cannot be put to hardships to support a few families.
“If the government will not give relief to the people, then the government will have to account.”
The fourth round of talks between the government representatives and the protesting JI delegation was held at the Commissioner's Office in Rawalpindi.
The government team includes Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Kashmir Affairs Minister Amir Mukam, senior PML-N leader Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Prime Minister's Media Coordinator BadAr Shahbaz.
The JI, led by its chief Naeemur Rehman has been staging a protest against the government’s failure to provide the people with relief from inflation.
Liaquat Baloch said: “Our sit-in has been going on for thirteen days and a large number of people are participating in it. Our protest is peaceful
“We have been talking about the solution to the electricity crisis since the first day
“Hike in petrol prices adds to economy woes. IPPs are a well into which public money is being sunk. We are trying to inspire the government to stand on this issue.”
