Flood in River Chenab, alert issued, 50 villages could be drowned

The government has issued an alert of a flood in River Chenab that could hit at least 50 villages in Athara Hazari tehsil close to Head Trimmu in the next 48 hours.
According to the 24News HD TV Channel, due to continuous rains, a flood alert was issued in view of possible low-level flood in Chenab River on Saturday and warned farmers about safety measures.
A water torrent of 110,000 to 70,000 cusecs will pass through the Chenab River from Head Marala in the next 24 hours while up to 170,000 cusecs are expected to pass through Head Khanki in the next 48 hours.
A water torrent of up to 130,000 cusecs could pass through the site of Head Trimmu Barrage on January 11 and 12, sources said adding that 50 villages in Athara Hazari tehsil may be inundated due to the untimely discharge of water at Head Trimmu.
The agriculture department has issued a warning to the farmers for safety measures.
